Style Frames

3 slightly different concepts- I stayed with the tightly kerned Helvetica Neue bold since it's instantly recognizable as relating to American Apparel. Nice branding, Dov, even though you are basically a terrible human being.

(imagine this is hand done instead of a weirdo font)

I think I like this last approach the best because it will allow me to live out my fantasy of being Joseph Muller-Brockman. Man that magenta exported crazy though.

  1. I like those style frames because I REALLY REALLY REALLY can't stand American Apparel. I mean come I've got some cuuurves, I am so not fitting into that skinny-girl revealing spandex onesie, no thank you

They do have comfy t-shirts though. But I digress, read this: http://clamormagazine.org/issues/38/aa/straub.php

    Dude's a creepster! Surprise.

  2. thats a pretty awesome article until it gets to the postmodern paternalism section. then it kinda turns into wordy bullshit. It's fantastic that american apparel doesnt out source their labor. no one should argue that.

ps. i like the black one the best

  3. The second and third options are the strongest. If you are passionate about the third option, go with that. Make sure you control your color palette as it is so vivid. Right now, I’m not sure if the red rule is working. The black frame is working very well due to how you are playing with scale and hierarchy. Can you apply that type of detailed consideration to the third option?

  4. yeah, American Apparel is a fantastic company in most respects, but the sexism really, really gets to me, and Dov Charney is disgusting. I've decided to only shop second hand from now on because unlike things like food or gas or whatnot, I certainly have the means to control how I buy my clothing, and not suffer from looking unprofessional or anything- my entire outfit for junior review was thrifted. So I guess I'm sticking it to the big corporation man or something.

I've decided to go with the second one because it is much stronger compositionally. And I do like it, and there's no real reason I can't use diagonal grids in other projects! (like the long term identity GD project)
